WHY WATCH

Can Elias Lindholm be stopped? Isn't that what we're all wondering? Lindholm has scored in each of the Flames' four outings so far this season and is coming off a hat-trick — capped by the sudden-death winner — in Saturday's 4-3 overtime victory in Washington. The 26-year-old centre will be shooting to match a franchise record during this date with the Rangers. Gary Roberts set the local standard with a lamp-lighting in five consecutive games to open the 1989-90 campaign, and Lindholm can now equal that feat.

THREE THINGS

… about the Flames

1) Johnny Gaudreau provided the setup on Elias Lindholm's overtime winner in D.C., a milestone moment for one of the NHL's premier playmakers. With that assist, his sixth of the season, Gaudreau became only the 10th player in Flames' franchise lore to reach the 500-point plateau. The 28-year-old winger hit that mark in 524 career games.

2) Darryl Sutter's squad has opened this five-game getaway with back-to-back Ws. Many were surprised to see the goaltenders split the first two stops — Jacob Markstrom pitched a 33-save shutout in Detroit, while backup Daniel Vladar earned the victory in Saturday's matinee against the Capitals.

3) A brand-new dad, Rasmus Andersson might get a bit more shut-eye on the road, but he's not getting a whole lot of rest during games. The 24-year-old rearguard has been Calgary's ice-time leader in the past three contests and is averaging 23:53 per night — two-plus minutes more than any of his teammates — so far.

THREE THINGS

… about the Rangers

1) Adam Fox, a third-round selection in 2016, is a credit to Calgary's scouting staff. Unfortunately, he never suited up in the Flaming C. Amidst rumours he would complete his college career at Harvard and sign elsewhere as a free agent, Fox was traded to Carolina as part of a blockbuster deal in June 2018. The Hurricanes eventually moved Fox to his preferred destination, where he's quickly emerged as one of the NHL's best blue-liners. At 23, the third-year pro is already a Norris Trophy winner.

2) This Broadway-based bunch returned home in good spirits after sweeping a four-game roadie. They capped that successful sojourn with Saturday's 3-2 comeback in Ottawa, where they scored three times in a span of 3:20 in the third period.

3) Rangers prospect Vitali Kravtsov — a first-round pick in 2018 — has requested a trade and is now waiting it out back home in Russia. The Flames have reportedly inquired about the 21-year-old winger.
